Helps you through the difficult first month of your quit - and beyond This is the app that science built. Proven techniques to help you stop smoking are delivered in a beautifully clear and very human way. The calculator tells you how much money you've saved and how many cigarettes you've not smoked, the calendar tells you how long you’ve been smoke free and how much life you've regained, bars show you how giving up smoking is improving your health, and a diary shows how your cravings for cigarettes are decreasing over time. Plus filling it out seems to help, even if you only use it to vent. Filling it out also helps us, because this is the app that science is building. If you give us permission, we’ll use the information you give us to learn how to help even more people stop smoking. As you know, quitting smoking is hard. But tens of thousands of people do it successfully each month. We want to know more about what works and what doesn’t and your data can help future quitters quit. The quit process Here’s what we know so far. The science is pretty clear that nicotine replacement therapy helps people stop smoking. But it needs to be taken as directed (many people don’t complete the course) and that means it’s best if you get it from your doctor rather than the pharmacist. But don’t worry if you don’t want to use NRT, this is your quit, you do what works for you. The other golden rule about giving up smoking is to make your mantra ‘not one more puff’. Because one puff almost always leads to more and you’re soon back smoking again. It doesn’t seem to matter how much confidence you’ve got about quitting and nor does it matter if you plan your quit ahead or quit or the spur of the moment. The social support you get from programs such as Stoptober are helpful but what really seems important is getting a real understanding of how much progress you’ve made, all the benefits you gain from giving up smoking and all that you’d have to lose by starting smoking again. Giving you that is the core way this app hopes to keep you smoke free. Electronic cigarettes E-cigs seem to help lots of people stop smoking. The ones that look like cigarettes seem less effective than ones you get from specialist vape shops. They also seem pretty safe, much safer than smoking cigarettes. However, we don’t have much long-term evidence so it’s probably best to use them as a way to stop smoking, rather than a replacement for cigs. The experiment We’re running an on-going experiment that tests different things to help people give up smoking. Everyone gets all the features mentioned above, the calculator that shows how many cigarettes you've not smoked, the calendar that tells you how long you’ve been smoke free, the bars that show how your health has improved from giving up smoking. Some people will get additional features. We can’t tell you what they are, partly because it might invalidate the experiment, partly because they change frequently. Don’t feel you’re missing out though. We don’t know if these things will help people stop smoking, we just want to learn whether they do. Don’t worry that they’ll want to make you smoke more either. We would never try anything we thought might make people more likely to smoke. This is all entirely voluntary and you can use the app fully without taking part in the experiment. But everyone who does take part will help the quitters who follow. So do yourself a favor by stopping smoking. And do your fellow smokers a favor by helping them understand how it’s done.

The ORCHA Review and Service
The ORCHA Baseline Review (“OBR”) is ORCHA’s first level of assessment and involves a detailed ‘desktop’ analysis of Digital Health solutions looking across all of the key areas of regulation and compliance.
Whilst a high scoring App is not guaranteed to be effective or safe, or a poorly scoring App is not necessarily ineffective or unsafe, it does mean that the relevant Developer has taken more or less care over the Apps compliance with these key Standards than other similar Apps. In the critical area of health and care, we believe that developers should take compliance with Standards extremely seriously.
ORCHA are not promoting or recommending any particular Apps through this process but are providing impartial information about an App's compliance with Standards and a mechanism for end users to easily identify those Apps that best meet those Standards and to check which ones don’t. The ORCHA Review process is the most advanced review mechanism for health and care Apps. We evaluate more Apps than anyone, so that you can be aware of which Apps are safe to use, and which are not. An ORCHA Score below 65% would indicate that an App has some issues that users should investigate further before using the App. Scores below 45% indicate that an App has considerable issues or challenges and, in its current form, is potentially unhelpful or unsafe. Conversely, Apps which score 65% and higher achieve ‘ORCHA Approved’ status as they demonstrate a good performance level across our Review criteria.
ORCHA’s Review has 7 stages:
Stage 1: Exclusion Filters
All Apps available on the App Store and Google Play in the ‘health, wellbeing/fitness and medical’ sections are filtered and organised into over 350 health and care condition categories.
Stage 2: Levels
The ORCHA App Classification system categorises Apps in one of five levels (0-4) based on their area of focus and functional capabilities. These Levels span from Simple Wellbeing (Level 0) to Regulated Apps which are subject to formal regulation (Level 4).
Stage 3: Functions
Our App Evaluation also includes gathering information on all of the Apps’ key functions and features. Consequently, users can search for Apps according to their functional capabilities.
Stage 4: Review Domains
We score Apps according to their Data Privacy, Clinical Assurance and User Experience. Each of these Review Domains receives a separate score, which are then combined to give the App’s overall ORCHA Score.
Stage 5: The Score
The ORCHA Review comprises questions across the three Review Domains, with some questions earning positive points and some earning negative points. An App’s ORCHA Score is built up from the answers to each of these questions, ensuring that all Apps are evaluated fairly and uniformly.
Stage 6: Developer Notification and Publication
When the Review is complete, the relevant developer is notified and given the opportunity to preview the Review ahead of its publication. Previewing the Review allows the developer to highlight any issues before it is published on our platforms. Once the notification period has expired, we publish the Review across our platforms.
Stage 7: Post Publication Review Monitoring and Management
All ORCHA Reviews remain valid until a new version of the App is released. If a new version of an App is not produced within 18 months of the current version, the App is marked as ‘Out of Date’, and its ORCHA Score starts to degrade at a rate of 5% per month. New versions of Apps will be automatically detected and subsequently Re-Reviewed by ORCHA.
